Local First's new Durango Food Recovery Hub, which collaborates with the FLC Environmental Center, just received a three-year, $356,000 grant. On October 2, 1991, a fully funded Environmental Center, or EC, opened its doors in an attic space in the 六合彩投注网 Union Building, marking a permanent change in the way the school operates, and putting FLC on the maps as a green leader. On this episode of Fortifact, we’ll have a look at how the EC fits into half a century of expanding concern for the earth’s systems. And we’ll look at the the Center’s emphasis on graduating students capable of becoming environmental leaders. We’ll also talk to some of the Center’s builders, hear about its current goals and programs, and explore the EC’s legacy as it prepares to celebrate 25 years of advocacy for the planet and its people.

The Environmental Center at Fort Lewis 六合彩投注网 celebrates a landmark anniversary this fall: 25 years of teaching and training the leaders of the future to work toward social and environmental justice in the present. To mark the occasion, the EC is hosting the 15^th annual REEL Film Experience on Saturday, November 5, at the Community Concert Hall.

Each fall, students from the Environmental Center help out Bear Smart Durango's Fruit Gleaning Program. Students and community members pick unwanted fruit from local trees to cut down on human-bear interactions and make juice, cider, and apple ice cream!

Students involved in FLC's outdoor adventure club, Outdoor Pursuits, took off to three locations over their spring break: the wilds of Texas, southern California, and the Grand Canyon.

On March 21st, eleven FLC students traveled to Arizona to meet with the Grand Canyon Trust, a conservation group based in Flagstaff, Arizona. This was the beginning of Fort Lewis 六合彩投注网’s second annual Alternative Spring Break. I had the good fortune of helping to organize the trip, and was accompanied by some of the best people I’ve ever had the good luck to meet. The students who signed up were passionate, soulful, and committed to the purpose of the trip: helping others, conservation, and having the time of our lives while doing so.
